British author, friend and creator Peter Lane writes about a discussion with Andrea Hylands in his book Contemporary Studio Porcelain (second edition) A&C Black London and University of Pennsylvania Press, Pennsylvania.

The vessel has an important physical function: that is one of containing. This function, owing to its familiarity, has a strong point of contact with an audience.
