The second of two films about the Australian artist potter Stephen Benwell, this film was released in May 2019.

In this film Stephen describes his career as an artist potter. It is a personal history, a history which also describes Stephen’s journey through an accomplished art life, through time and place, with friends and colleagues.

This film will be of particular interest to students studying ceramics.

Beauty Anarchy Desire

Here Stephen talks about his major retrospective exhibition Beauty Anarchy Desire - A Retrospective (2013) at Heide Museum of Modern Art in Melbourne:

“Jason Smith (then director of the Heide Museum of Modern Art at the time) after bumping into me and suggesting it, he finally got in touch with me and said we are going to do it and it is all locked into the programme now.
Then three years later it came on, it was a long business running up to the time it finally came on show. And another reason that Jason wanted to do the show is because he knew there was a manuscript by John Mcphee, and John had wanted to write a book about my work and he had been working on a manuscript for about ten years, on and off. Anyway that was a big part of the plan for the show, because you need a manuscript and a book for a show like that".
