Robert Jacks An artist's journey During his early career, Robert was influenced by the pioneer of British abstract art, Ben Nicholson. These early impressions gave Robert his direction ‘I have always worked by simplifying and eliminating. I try to draw to a point where there is nothing more I can take out of a painting and then I start adding again until they become overly full. Like an ebb and a flow’. Fascinated by James Joyce whose works have played a significant role in the development of some of his major paintings, Robert has recently returned from Dublin where he showed a series of twelve paintings at the house of the dead in an exhibition to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Bloomsday. The artist’s journey traces Robert’s life from Melbourne, Australia to New York and back again. The film includes stunning shots of Robert’s studio and hanging a major exhibition at Anna Schwartz Gallery. Price $35 including GST |
